Stefania Galegati, Cristina Alga, ARCIPELAGHI TELAI CORALLI GRANAI.

In 2017, a group of women dreamed of purchasing Isola delle Femmine (Island of Women)—located off the coast of Palermo, today a private property and natural reserve—through a crowdfunding campaign open to anyone who identifies with the feminine. The goal was to buy it "to leave it in peace," protect it, and experiment with forms of mutualism and care for the common good. For artist Stefania Galegati, the island, always seen from afar, became a device of desire and imagination. With the support of the Italian Council, curated by Cristina Alga, the project expanded into an international network connecting Palermo to various "emerging souths": residencies in Indonesia (Gudskul and Jatiwangi Art Factory) and Tanzania (Nafasi Art Space), encounters with female-led economic initiatives like the Motherbanks of Jatiwangi and the seaweed farmers of Pemba, and the search for an unnamed island to be named Pulau Betina.
This led to the creation of the Manifesto Infinito (Infinite Manifesto), written collectively and expressed through banners, terracotta works, kangas, canvases, and videos.
The project is supported by the Italian Council program (2024) promoted by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture.
